The Joan Stevens Collection -IMPORTANT SAMPLERS & PICTORIAL NEEDLEWORK. Rare AUCTION Catalog. Copyright: Sotheby's 1997. Forward by Betty Ring. This auction catalog is a "must have" for any sampler and/or needlework enthusiast. Joan Stevens was a dear friend of Betty Ring, and in the forward Betty talks about their friendship and her admiration for Joan. The catalog is an excellent source of information for collectors & scholars. It contains gorgeous color and black & white photographs and detailed descriptions of over 100 items including samplers, needlework tools, & related items that were treasures of Joan Stevens. Joan collected these items over 20 years until her passing in 1995.

Also included: The list of auction results, so you can match the lot numbers in the catalog to see the prices realized at the auction. The final amount realized at this auction was $ 1,771,398.00 !! It is an awe inspiring collection of needlework & needlework tools and a wonderful tribute to the woman who collected and treasured them.
